A very Pink Kitchen

June 23, 2010

I love pink, I do.  It is a happy color that makes me feel good and gives me something to smile about.  And though the 1950’s is my favorite era, I am not quite sure that I am up to this much pink in my kitchen.

This is one giant pink refrigerator.  I mean giant.  You could probably feed a family of 12 from that fridge.  But it’s pretty genius to include counter space with your refrigerator.  And it seems the drawers were way ahead of their time, right?

I do like the pink double ovens in this pic, particularly mixed with white subway tile (one of my little design crushes), but I don’t know that I could handle pink cabinets.  But I do love the dining set!

See, it’s maybe just a tad overkill.  It does look pretty, but I really don’t think I handle pink cabinets in my own house.  I’m more of a pink accessory kind of girl. Because I do want pink in my kitchen.  And because of all the fundraising for breast cancer there is a LOT of pink kitchen gear to be found.  Here are some of my favorite pink kitchen things (I’m particularly in love with the soft serve ice cream machine and that pretty pink stove!(Sources:  Kitchenaid Mixer, Refrigerator, Ice Cream Maker, Stove, Pink Bowls, ApronToaster, Blender, Hand Mixer, Can Opener, Dishwasher )

Pink Breakfast!

June 23, 2010

Breakfast is one of my favorite meals.  Creamie’s too.  We could eat breakfast food pretty much any time of day or night.  I love to make pancakes and waffles and play around with my recipes.  I figure if it doesn’t turn out the way I had planned, then I still have two more meals to get it right.

I don’t usually like grapefruit, even if it is pink.  Once I had some fresh from a tree and it was nearly the greatest thing I’ve ever ever tasted.  But there is hope, even for grocery store grapefruit.  My mom used to sprinkle it with a little salt, but I have a MUCH better plan.  Sprinkle your grocery store grapefruit with brown sugar and put it under the broiler until it gets all warm and carmelized.  Then devour.  But today is not a day for grapefruit.

Today is a day for heart shaped biscuits and strawberry yogurt (that looks like ice cream!)

Pink Biscuits

  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 TB baking powder
  • 1/2 tea salt
  • 1 TB sugar
  • 1/3 cup shortening or butter
  • 3/4 cup milk OR 1 cup buttermilk
  • pink food coloring

Sift the flour, baking powder and salt together.  Cut in the shortening/butter until it looks like coarse crumbs.  Mix a few drops of pink food coloring into the milk.  Then stir in the milk lightly with a fork until the dough pulls away from the bowl.  Turn dough out onto a floured surface and knead for 30 seconds-ish.  Roll out to 3/4 inch thick and use a cookie cutter (or the edge of a glass to make circles) to cut out.  Re-roll scraps once.  This will make 8-10 biscuits, bake on a cookie sheet or in a glass baking dish for 12-15 minutes at 450 degrees.  Remove from oven before they get golden brown.  You want these pretty light.  Enjoy!

(I made these green for St. Patricks Day.  But you could just leave them colorless, although that is considerably less fun.)

Pink Luggage

June 23, 2010

I have a very nice piece of rolling luggage.  My dad gave it to me about 10 years ago and it’s been all over the world with me.  Together w have visited Prague, Sweden, Finland, Estonia, Latvia and we lived together in Moscow for a year.  It’s been a very dependable friend, keeping all of my stuff safe.  But it’s black.  And boring.  I tied a piece of hot pink polka dot ribbon on the handle and that helps, but it’s still boring and black.  Next time I buy luggage, I’ll be looking at some of these.

[ I saw this gorgeous pink crocodile luggage from Neiman Marcus and fell in love.  Of course, it’s anywhere from $300 to $800 a piece.  But it sure is pretty, I just don’t think I’ll be taking the plunge anytime soon. ]

[ Rockland Handmade 2 piece set.  I love that it looks all vintagey and stuff. ]

[I love Love LOVE this Polka Dot Luggage. And at $99 for the set this is at the top of my list. ]

It’s not even breakfast time and I am having so much fun with my Pink Day Party!  And even though my first big Pink Day celebration is hardly even started, I already have a list of ideas for next year.  Does that make me nerdy?

Next up is breakfast!  I’ve got one of my favorite and most versatile recipes to share, and I’m hungry, so I better get cracking.  Breakfast doesn’t make itself, even on a holiday!

Pink Hair!

June 23, 2010

I’ve never dyed my hair.  I was white blonde as a child and it’s darkened a little to just regular blonde.  I don’t have any real plans to dye my hair, in fact I’m kind of terrified of it.  But yesterday afternoon I got a wild hair (pun intended) and I just had to have SOME pink hair to celebrate today.  (And a tiara.)

It’s nothing too extravagant, it was a little short notice for me to mentally prepare for ALL pink hair.  But I love it.  Like, Love love it. When I was younger I thought I’d like to be a strawberry blonde.  But now I know that is a little boring and if ever I was going to dye my hair I’d pick pink.  Obviously.  Here is some pink hair that I just Love.  It makes me smile.

Elsie is my crafty idol.  Her blog is a place that is always beautiful and she’s always up to something uber cute and creative.  And as if that wasn’t enough, last year she had pink hair! I love it.

Blythe dolls are a little creepy…. but they are still REALLy cute.  Particularly when they are sporting pink hair.

Pink + Ruffles

June 23, 2010

What goes together better than pink and ruffles? In my book pink + ruffles + (X) = LOVE.

Pink + ruffles + cake = LOVE. [ This image is everywhere on the pink ruffle interwebs, but it belongs to Martha ]

Pink + ruffles + dresses = LOVE. (Times 3)

Pink + ruffles + shoes = LOVE.[ image ]

I actually almost bought these shoes a few weeks ago.  I found them in my size for more than 50% off.  And they looked killer with my dark skinny jeans.  And if they hadn’t been SO uncomfortable they would be in my closet right now.  That’s not true, they would be on my feet right now.  I might just stick with the cake… it’s not uncomfortable at all.

It’s all in the [Pink] details

It’s all in the details.  I love accessories.  I have a gazillion purses (OK, just 42) and I have a big jewelry box my hubby gave me when I graduated from college.  And it is near full to bursting with accessories.  I really think that the little details can make all the difference.

I don’t do lipstick, but I really like this picture.  I have not worn lipstick a single day in my life (not even my wedding day) and I don’t intend to start anytime soon.  I think it looks wonderful on other people, but I just can’t handle it on myself.

I’ve also don’t do fingernail polish on my fingers, just on my toes.  Again, it looks lovely on other people and if I was going to do fingernails I’d do something pink and sparkly.  But I put pink and sparkles on my toes and I like it there just fine.  Do you do lipstick?  Do you do fingernail polish?  I’ll stick with the jewelry and the hair clips.

The Pink Pimpernell

June 22, 2010

I’ve mentioned before that I am in love, right?  Right.  For a long time now I’ve had my eye on the Pink Royal Typewriter from the 1950’s.  I’ve bid on several on ebay but with little luck (those auctions get fierce!)  My friend Amylouwho told me that this typewriter is my own Pink Pimpernell.  I lost a bid just last week that I was really hoping to win.  It was kind of a pet dream of mine to have my own pink typewriter to celebrate pink week.  [Enter crashing of dreams here.]  When I talked to Stan The Typewriter Man last week he told me that he would find me one.  He said it might take a while, but that he would find it and clean it up and make sure it worked.  Until then…

Or is she on ebay?

[ They have two!  Together!  It’s a Pink Week miracle ]

Le’sigh, that elusive Pimpernell.

One day soon I’ll have my own Pink Pimpernell.  And until then I’m going to really enjoy looking at photo’s and searching ebay and etsy and thrift stores (Now that would be a miracle!) and dream about that day when she’ll be mine.

[ I love this image.  Like a lot. ]

Happy Birthday

June 21, 2010

Today is my grandma’s birthday.  She passed away five years ago and after she died I found this photo of her in a box in my mom’s garage.  She was only 16 or so when this was taken.  I love pretty much everything about this picture.  I love her hair, the little bow, her pretty necklace, and of course her pink dress.

My grandma was a great lady who raised 10 children who went on to give her more than fifty grandchildren.  Now that those grandchildren are getting married and having families of their own we have grown to a group in the hundred’s.  I love you grandma, and I’m happy to have you at my pink week party. (I seriously LOVE that pink dress.)
