Summer Days
Long hot summer days kill me. I want to do nothing but sit inside and eat Oreos. Yesterday I sat outside and ate Oreos. So at least it was a change. I’m going to pretend tomorrow isn’t going to be so hot and try and finish a few projects and like, write a real post and stuff. We’ll see. I might just eat Oreos.
Carnival Rides
Last weekend we took Creamie to the city carnival. She was in heaven, though while actually on the rides she was pretty somber faced. Usually with her tounge out. And I know that she’s like, growing up and stuff, but she is officially old enough to ride those kiddie rides by herself. And she didn’t even freak out about it. Awesome.
These are a mix of iphone pics and real pics. Oh, and this next one is her taking her first picture. See, she really is getting old, and I love it.
She would only smile on the carousel when she saw her daddy. But he kept moving, so it was really unpredictable. I did get to ride this one with her. Carousels are pretty much my favorite ride.
My self portrait in the mirror on the carousel. It was ridiculous how many times I had to take this same picture…
And yes, if you were wondering, my hair is still pink. It’s faded a lot, now it looks a lot more cotton candy colored. And my blonde roots growing in look gray (bleh) but it is still very much a pink head of hair. I haven’t decided how long I’ll keep it. But if it fades to peach it has definitely got to go. I will NOT have peach hair.
I’ve been making new delicious food all weekend. Homemade strawberry ice cream, strawberry freezer jam, and today homemade vanilla ice cream with chocolate cake bits (not enough of them sadly) and I have warm bread sitting on the counter. I’ll post a few recipes this week, though there is no chance of this blog turning into a cooking blog. Foodtography is WAY too hard for me to want to do it everyday. Hope you had a great weekend.
*Creamie’s orange flowered shirt is the latest in the string of little peasant tops I’ve made this year. I can’t stop. It’s awesome.
What Might Have Been
So, you know when you have something all worked out in your head, and it is supposed to be adorable, and then something doesn’t quite work out….
Yeah, that’s my story. Not always, but today. This nice little stack of fabric was supposed to be a really cute fabric bunting, like this 4th of July one, and the pink one I made for my pink week giveaway. But, I did something stupid.
I picked the total wrong thing for the binding. In my mind it looked a lot cuter. In reality it looks like a big old mess. And I realized it as soon as I finished the last stitch and pulled it out of my sewing machine. Failure. Crafty Failure. So I threw it on my desk and ate a lot of cupcakes and today I feel much better about it. But I am still going to unpick all 20 feet of stitches and redo the binding with navy blue or something not quite so stripey.
Oh, and that exciting thing I was going to tell you about… it happened. It was lovely, and I didn’t take a single picture. But Amy did. And as soon as I can steal pictures from her I’ll post about it.
My Creampuff
I am not really a big Harry Potter fan. I mean, I’ve read a few of the books and I think I watched the first movie. Nothing against the whole thing, but it’s just not my thing. That being said, these pictures of my daughter wearing Harry Potter glasses are among my favorite things in the world.

Thanks for the glasses and wand Glenda, they will be well loved. Well loved indeed. Tutorial tomorrow…. I promise.
Butterfly Gold
Yesterday after breakfast and a nap we went to Scott’s moms for dinner and fireworks. And besides having wonderful food and great company, my MIL had a present for me. Two, but the other one is in the wash. She teaches highschool and they have been cleaning out their foods room/kitchen for a remodel this summer. And look what she found.
Pyrex. Pretty Butterfly Gold pyrex. It’s in great condition, and I am sure I can find a lid at the thrift store to fit it. I am so excited. This isn’t my favorite Pyrex pattern, but it is growing on me. I like it more and more every time I see it.
And I like it most of all stacked up on my desk. I am working on a tutorial for the buntings I’ve been making that I hope will be finished by tomorrow, but it might be Thursday. I’ve got a lot on my plate right now, which I’ll tell you about on Friday. It’s exciting!
The 4th of July
This morning I was up early to go to my moms for breakfast. And not just any breakfast. Awesome breakfast. All my brothers and sisters came and I loved watching all the kids play together. We had a party last night, one this morning and one more tonight before we are done celebrating Independence Day. Here are some pictures from this morning.
Three almost 8 year olds, five and a half year old, one almost five year old, one nearly three year old, a two and a half year old and a one year old. Total mayhem.
I made the bunting on the fence for my mom yesterday. It was ridiculously easy. And red, white and blue bunting makes any old breakfast a party, right?
Oh, and fireworks. Because fireworks at breakfast is important, ya’ll. My grandpa’s birthday was on the 4th of July, and when my mom was a little girl they would always have cantelope at breakfast, with sparklers,to celebrate. And seriously, can you go wrong with sparklers at breakfast? No. You can not.
This is my patriotic contribution. I found the rectangle tray at a thrift store weeks ago and this morning I was so happy I had shelled out the fifty cents. It was the perfect size!
My non patriotic contribution was three big pitchers of fresh squeezed orange juice. I still can’t get over the deliciousness.
My mom woke up at 4:30 to make her legendary cinnamon rolls. I tried to convince her to triple the frosting just this once, but she was not listening.
And because my family is awesome (and man should not live by bread alone) we also made two dutch ovens full of baked potato/egg/sausage casserole too. We had 22 people for breakfast, and there was very little leftover. And that is how you know it was a successful party.
Creamie and her cousins. This might be a new favorite picture. And maybe we’ll get ourselves organized enough to do it more often. Because seriously, how cute are these kids.
My almost five year old niece was wearing the cutest pair of red boots ever. I can’t wait for Creamie to grow into them! Every kid needs a pair of red boots, right?
I had a great time with my family this morning, and I can’t wait to do it all over again soon. This last picture is the view I grew up with in my small town. I looked out our dining room window at these mountains every morning. They always feel like home. And today I am particularly grateful for my family and my home. I am grateful for my country, and all those who have sacrificed to keep it the land of the free and the home of the brave. Happy 4th of July (or you know, just a regular old Monday.)
Baseball Games
On Thursday night we went to our local minor league baseball game. Tickets were cheap, and dinner was expensive. I guess that’s how it goes. Anyway, it was fun to sit on the grass and let Creamie run around while we dodged fly balls.
When the game was almost over we walked down to the bench so Creamie could talk to the players for a minute. And she was charming. So charming in fact that one of those big burly baseball players called her back and gave her his ball. (Which would be one of maybe 8 balls that went home with a fan that night.)
She was really excited. And I was too, until he asked me if she was single. I thought he meant me at first, which was awkward, but semi flattering. But no, he was asking about my TWO YEAR OLD DAUGHTER. I am trying not to read too much into the whole thing, maybe he thought he was just being funny? I thought it was pretty creepy, and made me feel like I needed to wash my hands, or my eyes or something.
Anyway, I won’t tell Creamie about that little bit, but she held onto that baseball all the way home and is now carrying it around in her purse. So at least something good came of it. And it was fun to sit out on the grass on our big quilt and just enjoy being together. I think we’ll probably go to a few more games this summer, but I’ve learned my lesson about talking to players.
So ready for a weekend.
Scott is off work early today and we are going to spend as much time as we can between now and Tuesday morning celebrating. We’ve got parties and family BBQ’s planned for nearly everynight and somewhere in there I’m sure we’ll sneak in fireworks and swimming. Here are a few Team USA ideas for your weekend. Or you know, if you are not Team USA, that’s awesome too. But there is cake, and everyone is on Team Cake, right?
4th of July Flag cake from Glorious Treats, but the idea is originally from 17 and Baking.

Slow Days and Big Glasses
Since Pink Week is over I’ve been spending my days doing absolutely nothing. Kind of. But it has been really fun to spend time on projects that don’t have a (self imposed) deadline. Projects that i don’t feel the need to photograph every single step. Or make sure I finish between the hours of 3 and 6:30 pm so I have decent light at my house to photograph them. (Our condo only has west facing windows and if I take a picture inside before 3 then it looks blue and cold and weird.)
Today I am going to play with this hilarious person, go to Costco for more strawberries and make jam. And maybe bread too. Rainy days call for warm homemade bread. I hope it clears up this afternoon, because we are planning on going to a baseball game. Sitting on the grass and watching the sun go down is a pretty perfect way to spend a summer evening. And then we throw a baseball game in for a little entertainment as well. I love slow days. What’s your favorite lazy day activity? You know, besides procrastinating cleaning the kitchen floor so you can enjoy the pure laziness. Ahem.
Summer Lovin’
Last night I went to my aunts house with some of my girly cousins to get our craft on. I had Creamie with me, and I forgot to bring my own project to work on, so I didn’t accomplish much, but I had a lot of fun talking to my cousins and eating delicious food. And that makes any evening awesome.
I got this stack of fabric last week, and it is destined for some more summer clothes for Creamie. I am not exactly sure what yet, but I’m sure it will come to me. Some more skirts and little peasant shirts are sure to be involved. I used the Camera Plus app on my iphone, with the Diana toy camera effects layer. I am starting to love my iphone camera apps, that’s for sure.
Last week I was a guest poster over at Amy is the Party for her summer blog party. I shared a favorite summer time treat, Lime Pie Cakes And not only did she have some awesome party tutorials and ideas (mini cupcake fondue, can I say more?), she is also having a giveaway for a free ad space if you are looking to advertise your business or blog. I think it’s a brilliant idea! Go check out her ad giveaway here, or a giveaway for some of her adorable jewelry here. And here is a list of all her wonderful summer party ideas!
