A Halloween Story
October 31, 2009
Rainbow Brite and her trusty sidekick Twink. Inspiration pictures found here. UPDATE: After two years of requests I have written a DIY tutorial for the Twink costume. You can find it here.
Happy Halloween. I hope it was filled with cute puffy sidekicks and lots of Tootsie Rolls.

I KNEW we were meant to be! THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT I WANTED TO DO WHEN I FIRST HAD PHEBE-the only difference between you and me-is you got it done!!!!!!!! I have wanted to be Rainbow Brite for every year of my life! I LOVE YOU! You are amazing!!!!! I am super jealous-but not really-because at least I saw it done! It makes me SUPER happy! SO ADORABLE!
SOOO CUTE! I LOVE IT!
J’love. Super cuteness all around.

I had no idea Rainbow Brite could be done so cute! I love it! Your little CreamPuff is adorable!
Way Cute!
She looks like a little sheep who ran through a Dr. Seuss rainbow machine. Very cute.
Haha! If you didn’t know who Rainbow Brite was then that is a very apt description. On Halloween someone asked me if she was an egg. ??? I’ve never seen an egg with star antenna (antennai?) and a little red pouch to hold color sprinkles… or cheerios. That must have been a chicken hopped up on something!
i love love love love it. if there is any way i can borrow that next year . . . i will be rainbow brite, kenzie will be twink, cam will be startlight the horse . . . or i will pay you to make her another color sprite costume . . . and dane WILL be murky or lurky. oh my gosh, you win all costume awards in my world.
Can I just say- WOW! You did a fantastic job on those costumes- and Creamie looks adorable.
comPLETely adorable. Both of you. But especially Twink, who does not look a bit like an egg. Left you a comment after yours on the mmm…crafts post.
These costumes totally ROCK! (Some of my favorite memories as a child are of reading these two little Rainbow Brite books over and over again.) Way to go!
P.S. I’ve been stalking you too since you left your first comment!
Absolutely one of the most adorable costumes I have ever seen ever. That last picture is precious!
Hi there!!
I replied to your pics on another blog. My name is Gaby larson. The costume for your little one is the most amazing costume I have ever seen!!! I am desperately looking to find how to make a Twink costume for my 1 year old. My daughter Maddie is going to have a Rainbow Brite for her 5th birthday so we bought her a Rainbow Brite handmade costume. Their 2 year old sister is going to be patty O’green and I am desperately looking for a Twink costume. I wanted to see if you could tell me how did you make it? Do you sell stuff like that? I cannot seem to find any to buy so I wanna find somebody that could make it for us. Was it hard to make. Please any help I would so so so appreciate it!!! I am desperate!!
🙂
Your little one is precious! Cutest twink I have ever seen!

Hello, my name is Shirley from Funchkins.com and I was wondering if I would be able to use one of your Rainbow Brite pictures for a blog post I am doing on Halloween costumes. A link to your blog would be included in the post.
You can reach me on smuswema[at]funchkins[dot]com if you have any questions. or if you would like to see which pictures I would like to use.
I look forward to hearing from you.

Hi there! Super cute blog, and cute Halloween costumes! Like everyone else I’m wondering how you did the Twink costume. Where did you get the fluffy white material?
Thanks!
I absolutely LOVE this…where did u find the pattern? I would like any info you could give me, I would like to make a twink of my own 🙂
friend!!!!!! I was LITERALLY thinking of trying to do this for halloween. Please, please tell me you can help it happen for me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I’ll love you forever and like you for always!
I LOVE this, do you make things and sell them on Etsy or anywhere? I would LOVE to buy a Rainbow Bright Costume in Large. I LOVE how cute and flirty it is without being one of those sleazy cleavage showing costumes now made for women as the only options.
Even better I would LOVE to be a Care Bear if there is some way to make a cute adult woman’s costume.
I don’t make costumes. Sorry! But, this rainbow costume would be a pretty easy costume to put together. It is a bright blue dress with a red belt. Then you’ll need two pairs of tall rainbow socks. Cut the feet off one pair to wear on your arms and you are good to go. Really it’s the rainbow socks that make this costume. Easy and relatively inexpensive for a HUGE impact! Good luck!
I think the only change I would make is to put red croc’s on the lil’one.
OMG, this has to me the most adorable thing ever. Where did you get the Twink costume. I would love this for my toddler
the most adorable costume…I sent the info and pictures to my sister for her grand-daughter.Thank you soo much for sharing.
I cannot get over the cuteness!!
So so awesome that you’ve posted the tutorial for these costumes! I saw this in August & fell in love. You absolutely inspired me. I asked a friend if she could try to whip up anything similar to it and she did. She did an amazing job. My daughter who is 8 mos old just wore it for Halloween & everyone has been talking about her costume for days now. Thank you for the inspiration!
If I was a mommy instead of a daddy and we had a girl instead of a boy, I would totally do this cuz it’s super cute!
I’m throwing a kids of the 80’s 30th surprise party for my husband! I’m dressing our 2yr old as Twink. Found an easier way to make the white jumpsuit…I found a snowman hooded fluffy suit on amazon.com. All I have to do is take the hat, scarf and buttons off the snowman suit and it’s ready to be turned into a Sprite!
I am SO stealing this for this year! Awesomeness doesn’t even begin to describe! THANK YOU FOR THE TUTORIAL!!!! 🙂 🙂 🙂 😉 🙂 🙂
This is the most creative mom/child costume I’ve ever seen. Too adorable for words.
OMG! This is the CUTEST thing EVER! ^_^ Love it!!!
I love this costume. I have never made anything stitched and wouldn’t even know how too but this is amazing. I just had my little girl and if they sold this costume i would def do it. Ive always thought about being rainbow brite myself and never did but now i might have to learn how to stitch so i can make this for next year. Any ideas on were to start are there classes i can learn the basics? and do you think knowing the basics i can make something like this? Thank you for sharing you and your twink look amazing! 🙂 *new momma*
.
I made this costume for my 2 yr old in April. Had a kids of the 80’s theme 30th surprise party for my hubby:) I used a snowman costume took off embellishments and made it into a Twink costume:) I have pics. It costs me under 20 bucks to make it and it was easy.
Natalie I’d love to see your pics of the twink costume. if you wanna send one to me my email is deborahsanteramo@rogers.com
natalie. please send me pics also. i was going to attempt this method. ilovefight3club@yahoo.com
Adorei! Sua filha é linda! Suas fantasias também! Amo a Rainbow Brite! Parabéns pela criatividade.

I would really like to go as Rainbow Brite this year! Where did you find this costume?
Thank you,
Nicki lee
Okay, I am just reading… You made this! Wow!!! Do you make and sell these??? Please Lmk, ASAP. 😉
I do not make or sell costumes for anyone but me and my daughter. Sorry! It’s just that to justify the time spent on sewing for hire I have to charge a lot. It has to be worth giving up time with my family.
The rainbow socks and arm sleeves are the key to the Rainbow Brite costume. And you can get them on Amazon. And as for my daughters Twink costume, I have a link to the free tutorial on what I did at the beginning of this post. 🙂 I hope you can find something that works for you!
e.
I love this. I would have wanted to do this if I have the pattern. Only I have to do it the other way around. Me as Twink and my daughter as Rainbow Brite since I don’t have a better figure than I have now 🙂
I found this costume idea from you on Pinterest and fell in love with it so I decided to make one for my daughter! Thank you for being so creative!!
Thanks for the post and great idea! It’s just the cutest!
I made a little bee costume based on this for last Halloween but forgot to let you know 😉

If I were a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle, now I’d say “Kowabunga, dude!”
Today, I went to the beachfront with my children. I found a sea shell and gave it to my 4 year
old daughter and said “You can hear the ocean if you put this to your ear.” She placed the shell to her ear and screamed.
There was a hermit crab inside and it pinched her ear.
She never wants to go back! LoL I know this is totally off
topic but I had to tell someone!
