The Not Quite Pink Robe

June 23, 2011

A few days ago dana released a new pattern for a beach robe and I knew immediately that I wanted to make one for Creamie.  That girl loves ANYTHING with a hood!  Only, things didn’t turn out exactly as I planned.  I bought a new pink towel which I was sure was going to be plenty of terry cloth to make a robe for a two year old.  And I laid out my pattern pieces and it was most definitely NOT enough towel.  Bummer.  But I was all excited to get started, and my bias tape was all made and everything was ready to go.  So I pulled out two old white towels and used those instead.

Pink would have been cuter.  And it would have fit in  better with the whole Pink Week/National Pink Day.  But sometimes life doesn’t turn out perfectly.  Whatever. I got pink hair, and a white rough draft version of a robe.  I can’t complain because I still love the way this turned out.  And just because plan A doesn’t work out doesn’t mean plan B isn’t going to be awesome.  She wore it this afternoon at our Pinkalicious Party.  It is a million times better than giving her a towel in my opinion. I can tie it on her.

What I wasn’t expecting was for the 3T-4T size to be so large.  She wears 3 and 4 T shirts, so I thought it would be just right.  Ha.  I should have made the 9 month size in width and the 4T size in length.  Lesson learned.  My kid is skinnier and taller than I think she is.

I mean, a robe doesn’t need to fit tight or anything, but I can wrap it around her twice and have to knot the ties in the back so she doesn’t trip on them.  It was a good trial run.  And she asks to wear it to bed every single night.  Which is awesome.

Speaking of pinkalicious party, I am exhausted.  We went through more than 200 cupcakes, almost 400 Otterpops, 80 pounds of ice and 5 gallons of pink lemonade.  If I don’t fall asleep at the computer I’ll post a few sneak peaks before I go to bed.  Happy Pink Day (you know, in case you missed the other 10 times I’ve said that today.)

I think each of my kids needs one of these, just a little big so they have room to grow. Please tell me it’s easy to make. What a great day it has been. My skin even decided to participate in being pink, I guess I should have sunscreened myself after I did the kids. Oh well! And I totally should have made more than 24 cupcakes for you.

My daughter said that she loved that “pink delicious” party today! We’ve told her that it’s pink-a-licious, but she is sure that it’s pink delicious. Actually, it was both! Thanks again. What a fun day and I loved all of your posts today too!

I have 6 yards of premium white terry cloth toweling that I bought to make my kids robes for Christmas – 8 years ago. Ahem. Creamie’s is so cute!! Your party sounds like it was an amazing success. Way to go! By the way, what’s an Otterpop?

I want this!! My kids have outgrown their terry robes (which, by the way, I bought way too big so they would last a couple of years – it was a good thing!) What pattern did you use?? I would LOVE to make them matching ones!
