The Alpine Loop
Last weekend we took a beautiful drive through the mountains to see the fall leaves. It’s something I’ve meant to do every single year for the past decade.
And I am always a little too late and the leaves have gone. It is sometimes hard to remember that the leaves up there turn so much earlier than they do down in the valley.
This year was beautiful. It was more than beautiful.
I kept our camera around my neck the whole way up and back. I took pictures through the windshield. Most of them are blurry. Shocker. But a few of them turned out. Also a shocker.
I wish I had been walking (but not really) so that I could have stopped to take pictures of everything.
We stopped at a mountain spring way up in the tippy tops of the mountains to eat our picnic lunch and to let Creamie run around for a while. She really just wanted to go swimming in the ice coldness. We didn’t let her.
This is something I’ll do every year. And I’m not just saying that. Really. We are going.
hubby and i lived in provo for a few months when first married and went on that trip, too. it is one of the most beautiful memories i have and that was over 40 years ago. i think of it every fall. we have a lovely drive we can take here up to stevens pass but it’s nothing like the alpine loop. thanks for bringing back such a happy memory
i live in colorado and the mountains look very similar here. so pretty and inviting. lovely pictures!
I LOVE the Alpine Loop! (Have you been to Cascade Springs?) To bad 2 of our 4 kids get carsick every time we do it! So we haven’t tried this year. Many thanks for the gorgeous photos!!
I thought these photos might be Colorado..I’m not even from here and yet to explore much of the state and yet I was able to recognize it lol
That has got to be the prettiest drive in the fall anywhere! i LOVE it! I love the pic with the yellow bush/flowers in front of the mountain, gorgeous!
gorgeous pix!!! I especially love the yellows in the last one and the 3rd last one. The end shot of the windy road through the birch is just so pretty and inviting…makes me want to take a drive this weekend!
so stunning.
You’ll have to teach me some of your photo tips when I come see you in May. 🙂
So beautiful. I love this time of year!
Also, I heard it was snowing in Park City and I thought of you. At least having a friend who likes winter makes me think of them when it snows instead of thinking, “WHAT’S WITH THE SNOW!?!?!?!”
🙂
How beautiful. Truly a gift and, yes, you MUST go every year!
I thought these were probably taken up there. SO pretty! Fall will hit here a little later as were at sea level and further south.
Thanks for the post. We’ve been trying to decide if it is too late to see the leaves, so you answered our question. THANKS!
