Guest Post- A Day in the Life

June 24, 2010

Yesterday I got an email from the funny husband of one of my awesome friends. I was dying laughing and had to share.  So, with his “permission” (I use the term loosely. I would have posted it had he said no. But I did ask.  And he said yes.) here is a guest post from Tom, a Man’s Man.  So here is Pink Week, from a man’s “perspective”.  I feel like it’s important you remember that this is supposed to be funny…

Hey E,

I like this whole pink week you’ve got going, but let’s face it, it’s pretty “girly”.  As a man’s man, I’ve got pink on my mind all day.  Let me take you through a day in my life…

I wake up early in the morning and there’s only one thing I’ll eat.

After which, I take my best friend for a walk.

At the club, I decide to play hard to get and spend some time with the boys in the back playing foosball.
Barbie-Themed-Football-Table-1.jpgTurns out, I decide the party is a drag.  So, I head to the last stop on my list… fight club.

All in all, it’s been a pretty full day.  I can’t wait to get home to my…

POST EDITED TO ADD: If it seems there are photo’s missing from this post, please let me know in the comments.  I just found out that four weren’t showing up.  And that makes the whole thing considerably less funny.  I can see them all, but I’ve learned that doesn’t’ mean that you can.  There should be 16…. We’re all good, right?  16 pictures, all hilarious?  Give Tom some comment love…. it’s his first blog post!

Pinkalicious Party

June 24, 2010

Yesterday was such a great day, full of great things.  But the party Creamie and I went to last night takes the cake!  It took it’s theme from the book Pinkalicious and was the most fun I’ve had in a long time.  My friend Linsey put everything together.  When I grow up I want to be just like her.

Linsey was the PERFECT hostess for a perfect pink party.

There were stories about pink cupcakes

And then there were of course pink cupcakes.  Linsey made these ones for the kiddos (based on the pictures in the book) and I brought these ones for everyone else.

There was face painting

And plenty of silly glasses.  Creamie LOVES glasses.

There was pink fingernails

And pink ponytails

And plenty of adorable silliness all around

There was even a boy at the party!

But the best part of all was maybe this bike.  This beauty belongs to Linsey’s cousin.  Her husband got it for her when they were dating and he painted it pink.I don’t know about you, but this could possibly go down in history as one of the greatest surprises ever, for her and for me.  I wish I’d know it would be there, I would have brought some daisies to put in that basket!

Creamie loved it too.  She wanted nothing more than to push those pedals and go go go.

I’ve got a whole page of ideas for my pink party next year, not to mention the pages for Pink Week.  I had big plans to have the tutorial for the little flower brooch done and ready for this afternoon.  But, Creamie had such a good time yesterday that she didn’t wake up until noon today.  And I had such a good time yesterday that I slept in way late as well.  So she won’t be taking a nap today, which makes the likelihood of me putting a tutorial together slim to none.  But hopefully tomorrow afternoon it will be ready!  To see more pics from this Pinkalicious Party, visit my flickr album.  (And to see another great Pinkalicious Party go here.)

Pinkalicious

June 23, 2010

One of my best friend’s hosted a Pinkalicious Party tonight.  It was wonderful, complete with girls in pink dresses, face painting, cupcakes and everything else that is fun and girly and delicious and pink.  I’m too tired to load all my pictures tonight so I’ll post those tomorrow.  But right now I kind of feel like this.  Ready to lay down and close my eyes and be surrounded by some of my favorite pink things.  (I LOVE her shoes!)

It has been a really fun day for me.  Exhausting, but so much fun.  Thanks for celebrating National Pink Day and my blogiversary with me.

[ How did I make it all the way through the day with no balloons!!! image ]

I still have a few more days of Pink Week left.  And I hope you are enjoying this as much as I am.

Good night, but don’t forget to enter my giveaway before Saturday night if you haven’t already!

A Little of Everything Pink

June 23, 2010

Here are a few more things that I have found that I wanted to show you.  I am not sick of pink yet.  Are you?  Don’t answer that.  I can’t believe the day is almost over.  I have had SO much fun today!  I already can’t wait for next year!  And I still have a few more days of Pink Week to go.  Yay!

And I have to add one more.  I like it when things come in 13’s.  There’s nothing like a nice even baker’s dozen of pretty pictures to wind down the evening.  Besides, this last one is just too good to leave out!

I’ll have one more post tonight, and then I’m taking a break.  Until tomorrow.  Happy Pink Day!!!

Girls in Pink Dresses

June 23, 2010

I am kind of in love with the 1950’s and early 60’s.  I mean, I’m glad I live now, but I am drawn to so many things that are you know, 60ish years old.  I particularly like the style of dresses from that time.  Here’s a few of my favorites.

Mamie Eisenhower was married to US President (Ike) Eisenhower and she wore this dress to the 1953 inaguartion.  Word is it was embroidered with more than 2,000 pink rhinestones.  And she had matching gloves.  And a matching purse.  I love it.

Four years later she wore this sassy hot pink number, with matching shoes and purse and everything.  I think we could have been best friends.

Strawberry Cuppiecakes

June 23, 2010

Sometiems you come across something so delicious that you kind of have an out of body experience.  And that’s what these cupcakes do for me.  I had them first at my little sister’s wedding last summer.  And then my mom made this recipe into a cake for Creamie’s first birthday in January.  And I made them this afternoon, and they are HEAVEN!  We have the Martha Stewart Show to thank for them.

Recipe for Mind Blowing Strawberry Cuppiecakes

  • 1/2 cup soft unsalted butter
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 2 egg whites
  • 1 tea vanilla
  • 3/4 cup sliced strawberries. Puree in blender
  • 1/4 cup milk (mix with strawberry puree)
  • 1 1/2 cups flour
  • 1 tea baking powder
  • 1/8 tea salt (omit if you used salted butter)

Use these cupcake tips from Martha and combine ingredients.  Fill each lined muffin cup 2/3 full (about 1/3 cup for each) and bake at 350 degrees for 20-25 minutes, test with a toothpick at 20 min.  Frost with Strawberry Buttercream.  Makes 12 very full cupcakes.  (I made 12 normal sized cupcakes and a tiny little bundt cake which I’m going to eat for dinner.)

Strawberry Buttercream Frosting

Use a handmixer to beat together the following ingredients until light and fluffy.  Refrigerate leftovers (or just eat them out of the bowl…)

  • 1/2 cup salted butter, room temp, but not too soft
  • 4 TB pureed strawberries
  • 1 1/4- 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/4 tea vanilla

My butter was too soft and as a result my frosting was too soft.  (I just used an untipped pastry bag to squirt it onto my cuppiecakes, and then I put them in the fridge to help keep them from melting.  Next time I make these I’ll probably strain my frosting puree a little.  I think the extra liquid was also a contributor to the soft frosting problem.  I topped each cuppiecake with a raspberry.  Yummy!

Cupcakes!!!

June 23, 2010

It wouldn’t be a proper Pink Party without cupcakes.  Lots of cupcakes.  Here are a few of my favorite’s.  (And as soon as my strawberry cupcakes are finished cooling I’ll post some “real” one’s.  And the best pink cupcake recipe of all time.

These last one’s are for my dear friend Linsey.  She loves pink and cupcakes as much as I do.  And because they have cutie pie little rainbow’s that makes them even better.  She is also lucky enough to be around to get one of the “real” cupcakes.  They are almost ready to frost and my whole house smells like a strawberry cupcake factory.  I should have made a double batch.

Pink Pyrex

June 23, 2010

I have a small collection of pink pyrex.  By small, I mean two.  But I love them both, and I found them at a thrift store for a KILLER deal.   When I saw this one a few weeks ago my heart skipped a beat and I carefully carried it to the register.  The man told me it was on sale for $.25.  They only accept cash at this little mom and pop spot, and the smallest bill I had was a $5.  When I handed it to the man, he told me he didn’t want to bother making change and told me I could just take it.  One of the greatest thrifting days ever!

Pink Gooseberry Pyrex

I think this looks so pretty full of my breakfast.  (Recipe for my pink biscuits here.) One day I hope to have a whole shelf of old pyrex dishes in all colors.  But until that day comes I’ll just enjoy pictures of them on flickr.  And today specifically I’m enjoying these pretty pink ones.

Next up is cuppiecakes!  One of my cousins, a cupcake chef extraordinaire started calling them cuppiecakes, and now I can’t go back to plain old cupcakes again.

Hello Bubblegum

June 23, 2010

Speaking of pink candy…

Look what I just found!  You can customize your shirt with whatever words you’d like.  Of course I’m celebrating pink week over here.  So I’m really considering this one…

[ design your own bubblegum shirt here ]

Of course, I’d like one of these too.  I’ll add it to my kitchen.  So cute!

I bought some pink bubblegum yesterday.  I’ve been blowing bubbles all day.  And that make me happy!

Pink Sweets

June 23, 2010

Pink and candy just go together.  I’m not sure what it is about pink sugary things that makes my mouth water, but it works every time.  Here are a few of my favorite’s.

I’ve never tried a macaroon.  These macaroons look good, but I’m worried they don’t taste as good as they look.  And if they aren’t to die for delicious they just aren’t worth eating.  Also, I don’t like almonds, so my tastes might not be refined enough for these french desserts.

[ I think I’ll just take some of these ]

[Oreo pics by Bakerella on flickr ]

Yep, I’m quite sure there is no way to go wrong with pink Oreo’s. Did I mention that they are Strawberry Milkshake Oreo’s?  The only other thing I need to know about them before I scarf them down is “do they come double stuffed?”
