I made something!

March 12, 2011

I just finished up at my sewing machine.  And it’s the first time I’ve sat down since Christmas Eve when I was hurriedly finishing the last of my gifts.  It was a small little project, but it’s cute factor to time spent ratio is totally in my favor.  And that is my kind of project.

suspenders onesie

I bought this pattern last week and today I sat down to finish up pretty much the best baby gift ever.  Really.  Ever.  There are so many cute things for little girls.  Making a little skirt, or an apron or hairbows or ruffled onesies is a piece of cake.  But there aren’t that many super cute things for baby boys out there.  Bigger boys?  Yes.  Babies?  They kind of get the shaft.

closeup This little onesie only took me about 30 minutes to put together.  Actually, the hardest part was picking out which fabric to use for the ties and suspenders.  You know, among the derth of good boyish options.  Sigh, in my perfect world I would design fabric.  For girls AND for boys.  What a concept.  I have four more cut out and waiting for a spare 30 minutes.  Now that this one is done, I am searching out places to buy plain white onesies in bulk.  Because I kind of want to make one for everyone I know.  Seriously.  It was just the thing to get me out of my sewing rut.  Or non-sewing rut as it were.  [ Suspenders and Tie pattern from WinterPeach.  And it’s only $4.  A $4 well spent I’d say. ]

Oh good heavens! This is THE cutest thing I’ve seen today! It makes me wish I knew lots of people who were having babies. Boy babies, that is…although I also like the idea of a ruffled onesie.

P.S. I totally agree with you on the lack of cute baby boy things out there in the world.

Hilarious!!! That is one of the best baby boy gifts I’ve seen for ages!!! My brother is awaiting arrival of his FIFTH baby soon, so I’ll hang tight and see if it’s going to be boy flavor before I get too busy with this.

So cute and so true about how there isn’t much cuteness out there for baby boys. It was so fun to see you tonight!

Very dapper! Apparently there needs to be a Title Nine in the clothing world for little boy clothes. 30+ years ago I searched long and hard for tastefully cute stuff for my guys . . . someday I may have a need for little baby stuff (she sighs) and was anticipating the markeplace had changed over time. Guess not.

This is the cutest ever. I was smitten with it at the shower and wanted to go home and make one just like it! I also loved the darling dress you also made. There isn’t much my crafty amazing niece can’t do. I get goosebumps just watching her work her magic! Love you!

Oh MY!!! I love this! I make and sell onesies in the summer at our Farmers Market and really really wanted something different and new this year! I am going to attempt this for sure. Thanks and cute fabric choices by the way. Carter’s outlets are where I buy my onesies.

This is absolutely adorable! I can’t wait to start for my son to be! Now when you said, in a perfect world, you would design your own fabric, I found a website that allows you to do just that! Spoonflower.com I hope that helps you on future endeavors, which will definitely help me!

How did you avoid the white seam on the bottom part of the tie? (The pattern shows a white seam all the way around the tie.)
