Scott is off work early today and we are going to spend as much time as we can between now and Tuesday morning celebrating. We’ve got parties and family BBQ’s planned for nearly everynight and somewhere in there I’m sure we’ll sneak in fireworks and swimming. Here are a few Team USA ideas for your weekend. Or you know, if you are not Team USA, that’s awesome too. But there is cake, and everyone is on Team Cake, right?

I am a total Pinterest addict. Looking at thousands of beautiful images in just a few minutes is something I never knew I needed in my life every single day. It does me more good than TV, reading blogs or drinking Diet Dr. Pepper. It has quickly become a few minutes of my day that is very hard to give up. Here are some of my very favorite pink images. Tomorrow is the big blog party! Yay! I am spending today finishing up the last of my projects for tomorrow, and then I’ll spend my evening making cupcakes. I am having a Pinkalicious party for my friends and neighbors, and I think I’ll need at least 150 pink cupcakes. And lots of popsicles and pink lemonade. I can’t wait! I’ll be sure to take lots of pictures and I’ll post those on Friday as soon as I go through them all. Happy Pink Week! (And don’t forget to enter my pink week giveaway.) A Few Dreams

A New Notebook

There is nothing quite like the feeling of a fresh clean start. I made a few goals for myself this year, and one of them is to write everyday.

This is my stack of notebooks that I use each week. Each one is for a different project or purpose, and no two of them overlap. And this stack right here is why it will be impossible for me to move to a digital organization. Besides, I can’t doodle in a digital notebook. Last year I started a blog notebook, which is just what it sounds like. It’s a place for me to keep all of my ideas of things I want to blog about, or reminders of posts I want to write. I have a few pages for each month, plus a lot of blank pages to fill up. This year I WILL post about my very favorite Valentines tradition! I’ve been doing it for four years and I still haven’t ever blogged about it because I never think to take pictures and write about it before V-day. This notebook is probably the one thing that has helped me to be able to write new posts each day for the past six months or so without it feeling like an absolute chore. It really has helped make blogging easy for me. Something about all those lists makes me OCD heart very happy.

I bought my 2011 blog notebook back in October on a post back to school sale. It was less than a buck. And it looked nothing like this at the time. It was garish and terrible on the outside, but inside it was nothing but clean new pages. And I’m a total sucker for clean new pages. I knew I wanted to do something to improve on the covers, but I couldn’t decide what. Until last night. First I removed the covers (carefully slipped them out of the wire binding) and lightly sanded down the shiny ugly surface. Then I sprayed them with two coats of primer and painted them with acrylic paints. It was a really fun project. This morning I finished them off with two coats of spray on polyurethane to help protect my paint job, and give them a new shiny finish.

There are already dozens of pages full in this book, and I can’t wait to fill up the rest of them. As for the rest of that stack? Well, one of my goals this year is to write everyday, in at least one of those journals. I love having an online journal in the form of this blog, but there are somethings that I like to keep a secret between me and my pen. (Like in one of these little books I have a list of gifts to make for birthdays/mothers/fathers days this year. And I’ve already finished my Christmas 2011 gift list and have already started creating those little and not so little surprises!) We are one week into the New Year and so far I’ve managed to write each day. They say it takes 21 days to make a habit, and I’m 2/3 down.

A Little Bit of Awesome

And there’s one more thing, more awesome than numbered paper clips and pantone boxes and polka dotted pears. Last week I posted about 17 year old blogger Rachel. She desperately needed a few words of encouragement, and to those who went to visit her blog, thank you. I have been checking up on her each day since she was Love Bombed and you would not believe the difference in her life in just one short week. It gives me goosebumps to see how a few sentences from a relatively few people could be such an amazing force for good in her life.

“ What I wanted to say, was that your comments couldn’t have come at a better time. I’m ashamed to admit it but I planned on coming home and hurting myself, and well, I wasn’t too worried about the outcome. When I signed onto my blog to find over 400 comments, I started to read them and was instantly overwhelmed by the love I felt from people I’d never met. It was the best feeling in the world, and as I sit here, a few hours later, it still brings tears to my eyes to think about. “

In less than one week she went from feeling that no one would notice if she never showed up for life again to this, which she posted yesterday:

“ …Maybe I’m me. And Maybe, for once, being JUST ME is OK. “

I don’t even know her, but I think my heart has grown three sizes. There is good in the world, and she has found it. Those that left her words of encouragement and love showed her where it was. Watching her find it, has reminded me that it is there. Who knew, it’s been here on the internet all this time. Awesome, right?

School Shopping

So this week I’ve been thinking about how much fun it would be to go back to school again. Which means that most of my free time has been spent cleaning, cooking and doing some menial crafting business searching the interwebs for pretty schoolish things. And even though it’s not going to happen this year, if it was, I’d be taking these things with me. You know, tucked inside one of those fab bags from yesterday.

Looking Ahead

Last week Elsie posted about a new blog project. She’s calling it 4 Simple Goals and I decided to play along too. The whole idea behind it is to choose a few simple things that will make me happier every day, and then complete them before the end of the year. The point is to choose things that I can’t/wouldn’t move off of my to-do list without a little push, but not to choose something that is too hard or unreachable. Which means that cutting sugar out of my diet (again, for the umpteen millionth time) is not going to make the list. Here are my four, well, the first four.

Number 1: Finish this room. I’ve been saying this for a full year. I need to clean up the piles and stacks of stuff, donate what I’m not going to use/don’t love and clean off my desk so I can work in here every day. Number one part two: Work in here every day. Though I can hardly call it “work”… I should say play in here everyday. (I know this pic looks nice and clean, but you should see what is cropped out! I’ll post some before pics when this is done.)

Number 2: Sew something for myself. Something like a jacket, or a dress. Something that fits well and that I want to wear outside of my closet. Heck, I want to make something I’ll wear all the time. I have dozens of patterns I’ve picked up at thrift stores, some new one’s, some vintage. But I am afraid to try any of them. Making dresses for Creamie is easy, making quilts is easy. Putting in zippers and fitting darts to my body is harder. I have yet to be successful in either area. But I really want to make something for me to wear.

Number 3: Handmade Christmas. I have already accomplished one of my goals from the beginning of the year, because I started thinking about Christmas presents in July. (Yay, cross that off the list!) I have already started making some of them. My plan is to make ALL of them. Myself. I have everything planned out, and was able to find most of my supplies in my stash or from the thrift store. Now it’s just a matter of building/making/sewing/finishing them all. I’m going to be busy. Well, busier. I also want all of the gifts to be done by Thanksgiving so I can focus on other Christmasy things in December.

Number 4: Make really good pie. I’ve made four pies in the past month. I love making pie. It’s easy, it’s delicious, it’s impressive and it makes me happy. My mother is an expert pie maker and I want to be like her. By the end of the year I want to have mastered every aspect of pie making. I’ve got the eating part down pretty good. Which is why I can’t stay off sugar, but that is another post.

My list is in order of what I want to accomplish first. As soon as I finish one of these projects I’ll post about it, and then add another to the list. I want to finish cleaning up and organizing my room in the next few weeks. (Also, I need a better name for it. It’s not really a “studio”, I don’t like the term “crafty area”… It’s just a room of my own.) And then I’ll make myself a jacket, or a dress or something. I won’t be able to post all of my Christmasy things until after the big day, but there will be a lot of behind-the-blog work going on until then. For number four I’ll post some of the pies I make. Probably not all of them, this isn’t going to turn into a foodie/pie blog. But I will occasionally post pies that turn out better than I expected, or are consumed faster than anticipated. I am excited to get started! I’m going to spend today’s naptime digging through old supplies and cleaning things out in my room. And then maybe I’ll make a pie.

Three Little Cuties*

I have project ADHD. For reals. Sometimes I can’t stay focused on one project long enough to finish it (or even get past the first exciting “NEW!” phase before I get sidetracked by something else. So this week I have my newish projects include: printing my own postcards/notecards/”business” cards with those pictures of Beauty project, an ongoing quilt project that has required a lot more math than I had at first assumed. And sixteenths of inches. Lame. And then last night I got all excited about these new little cuties. And all of this at the same time. Sheesh. But, these new one’s ARE cute, aren’t they!

Excuse me while I give myself a stern talking to.

“Ok self, listen up. Stop adding things to your list. We’ve got enough stuff on it and we really need to start some crossing things off the list. (I’m a crosser, not a checker). I’ve got a NEW list for you to stick to. Pay attention, these are in order.

1)Finish two quilt tops this week.
2) Notecards- wait for coupon and then combine with giftcard and get for free. Awesome! So maybe this should have been number three…
3) These patterns? Well, hold them and love them and start thinking about Christmas.
4) And the rest of that stack of things to do and places to go and drawers to organize and laundry to fold? Well, think about that tomorrow. You are much more successful with three item lists.”

Oh, and one more thing for that list

5) Justify purchasing three patterns (they were on sale!) by telling yourself that you returned half of the shirts you bought yesterday, and a sweater from last Christmas. (Really. It’s been sitting in the bag with the tags and the receipt for MONTHS. And thank you Kohl’s for giving me all my money back. And good luck selling a sweater in July.)

The Hop. Skip. Jump Shop is the brainchild of Australian designer/artist Fiona where she sells her patterns and a few amazing softies. She also has an adorable blog which was one of the very first that I ever bookmarked. You know, back in those days when I had no idea what a google reader was. I don’t know how I survived.

Now, I’m going to see what I can do with this Thursday of mine. I guess I’ll start with number 1- Work on those quilts. I’ve got everything cut (I think) and now I just need to start sewing. If I am lucky maybe I can get Scott to do the pressing of seams for me? Wish me luck on that one! What’s on your to do list?

6) I almost forgot. I am going to make a cherry pie today, well, if I can get enough cherries pitted and into my bowl before they make it into my mouth. I love fresh cherries!
